LEADERS Nepal undertook the part of the project for ambient air quality standard setting in three major cities of Nepal namely Kathmandu, Biratanagar and Pokhara from April to July 1999. The client of this project was Shree Krishna Engineering Consultancy/Ministry of Population and Environment (MOPE), Nepal.
LEADERS Nepal was the first NGO to monitor level of suspended particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide, lead (Pb) and Ozone in ambient air in major cities outside Kathmandu valley.
As a result of these campaigns, in 2003, government of Nepal introduced National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for PM10.
